ATOCOM, actively participating in the community is a project launched in 2024. It was led by Dr.Laura Vidaña, lecturer in the Occupational Therapy degree at EUIT, and carried out by a team composed of Maria Durante, occupational therapist, and Rocío Poyatos, personal assistant.
The aim of the project is to promote the autonomous participation of its users – adults and older people with disabilities or in situations of dependency, residing in Terrassa (Barcelona, Spain). The purpose of the program is to prevent the institutionalization of participants, as well as to provide support to caregivers.
Thus, ATOCOM seeks to improve participation, autonomy, and quality of life among adults and older people with disabilities or dependency who, due to their situation, are at risk of institutionalization. At the same time, it aims to enhance the quality of life of caregivers and consequently reduce caregiver burden.
This project is one of the ten selected in the 2nd call of the Transforma Program of the Social and Health Innovation Hub (HISS), within the challenge Community Alternatives to Institutionalization.
The proposal, led by EUIT, includes as partners the Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa, Mútua de Terrassa, and the Service for the Promotion of Autonomy of the Terrassa City Council, with advisory support from CAPSBE, De Bat a Bat, and the Catalan Occupational Therapist Association (COTOC).
