The project Nursing Management of Gender-Based Violence through High-Fidelity Simulation in Nursing Students represents a commitment to high-fidelity clinical simulation as an innovative and distinctive teaching methodology. This educational strategy, widely established in the field of health sciences, enables the recreation of real-life situations in a safe and controlled environment, allowing students to experience, reflect upon, and improve their practice without risk. EUIT Centre Universitari is the only university that addresses gender-based violence through high-fidelity simulation.
Through the participation of trained actors and actresses and carefully designed, highly realistic scenarios, students are fully immersed in complex situations. This approach facilitates the development of both the application of clinical care protocols and the non-technical and interpersonal skills required to support victims and provide person-centred care.
Using a study design with pre-intervention and post-intervention assessments based on validated instruments, students’ knowledge, empathy, and communication skills were evaluated before and after participation in the simulation. The preliminary findings are particularly noteworthy, demonstrating a statistically significant improvement in communication skills and emotional competencies, such as empathy, which are essential components of high-quality nursing care in situations involving gender-based violence.
These findings support the effectiveness of high-fidelity simulation as an educational tool for addressing sensitive and highly complex issues such as gender-based violence. They also highlight the crucial role of university education in preparing future nurses to identify, support, and intervene in response to this complex and persistent social problem.
