The Ecstatic Dance project, launched in the 2024/25 academic year, is carried out within the framework of the Community Occupational Therapy course, a third-year subject of the Degree in Occupational Therapy. It is led by Professor Dr. Inda Zango, together with Miriam Rigual (occupational therapist, DJ and Ecstatic Dance specialist), in collaboration with the Institut Torre del Palau in Terrassa.
The project aims to enable Occupational Therapy students to explore and understand the benefits of this free and conscious dance form, while also providing 4th- year secondary school students at the Institut Torre del Palau with tools for emotional expression, anxiety and distress reduction, and thus mental health promotion.
Occupational Therapy students at EUIT have had the opportunity to participate in the design and facilitation of the Ecstatic Dance sessions held at the Institut Torre del Palau.
As a final outcome of the experience, and following several Ecstatic Dance sessions, Occupational Therapy students have succeeded in developing body awareness skills applicable to therapeutic intervention — skills focused on analysing physical aspects linked to emotional expression and conscious body awareness, thus becoming a valuable tool for prevention in the field of mental health.
This project has received funding from Terrassa City Council for the 2024/25 academic year.
